Server Intellect announced today the June release of a Full Featured Cloud Offering. Per Eric Pratt, CEO, “In formulating our cloud offering, Server Intellect began by breaking down what true hosting on the cloud really means. For public cloud hosting, any valid offering should provide full scalability, full redundancy and full technical service.” Mr. Pratt added, “Server Intellect is proud to announce that our public cloud hosting will provide all three of these features which make up a true cloud offering at a price that is comparable to old-fashioned shared web hosting.”
Additional advantages include state of the art network security and the ability to scale within 15 seconds along with instant load balancing and clustered redundancy. 24/7/365 technical service will also be included as it is with all of Server Intellects services.

If you find yourself surfing the web this Earth Day, you may be interested to know that one of the boldest green initiatives involves the technology of computing.
We’ve entered the era of the “cloud”–a way of computing via the Internet that broadly shares computer resources instead of using software or storage on a local PC. Whereas traditional IT services involve large data centers and server farms requiring substantial energy to power and cool the servers, cloud computing is green: it promotes sustainability and has a much smaller carbon footprint by utilizing computer power more efficiently.
To accomplish this feat, cloud computing can’t depend on traditional hard drive technology. Although traditional hard drive manufacturers have increased the capacity of drives, their basic performance in terms of access speed and power consumption has not changed for over a decade.
“The flash memory utilized within solid state drives (SSDs) is faster and uses significantly less power than conventional hard drives,” says Ryan Petersen, President and CEO of OCZ Technology, a company headquartered in San Jose that designs, manufactures and distributes high-performance SSDs and premium computer components. “This is due to the fact that there is no need to drive physical moving parts within the drives. Because SSDs allow users to access their data electronically rather than mechanically–considerably reducing the time required–they also eliminate the need for a large, costly storage area network. Without such a massive array, there are colossal power savings.”
A secondary benefit, Petersen notes, involves the savings in maintenance costs. Employing fewer hard drives to power the tasks of cloud computing requires a smaller facility to house the identical operation. In addition, the overall heat generated by the system is significantly reduced, allowing the associated costs to be slashed. A single SSD, he claims, can save users nearly $4,000 in annual energy expenditures and over $3,300 in annual cooling expenditures.
With their increased performance, lower overall power consumption, and decreased heat output, SSDs–such as those being developed at OCZ Technology–are allowing companies to slash energy costs and to turn the cloud green. The company has also developed a series of power supply units (PSUs) that sport an ultra-high 90% efficiency rating, thereby achieving an 80 PLUS(R) Gold Certification. NEW YORK Rapid sales growth of nearly 442 percent is the accomplishment that drove technology company Voxel dot Net to a position on Inc.’s third annual Inc. 5000, an exclusive ranking of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies.Voxel dot Net debuted on Inc. Magazine’s 2009 list of America’s fastest-growing private companies in the top 15 percentile, to #623. Voxel also ranked No. 48 among the “Top 100 Inc. 500|5000 Companies by Metro Area – New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island, NY-NJ-PA” and No. 82 among the Top 100 in IT Services. The selection by Inc. builds on two recent nods from Gartner Research, which selected Voxel as a key player in cloud computing and Web hosting in the August 2009 “Magic Quadrant for Web Hosting and Cloud Infrastructure Services (On Demand)” report and in April 2009, when it was featured as a “Cool Vendor in Cloud Computing.”Voxel joins other prominent brands such as Vizio, GoDaddy, Zipcar, and Honest Tea on this year’s list, which represent the most comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy -America’s independent-minded entrepreneurs.”Savvy trend spotters and those who invest in private companies know that the Inc. 5000 is the best place to find out about young companies that are achieving success through a wide variety of unprecedented business models, as well as older private companies that are still expanding at an impressive rate,” said Inc. 5000 Project Manager Jim Melloan. “That’s why our list is so eagerly anticipated every year.”Voxel’s debut at a high ranking is significant given its competition – especially among the 371 Inc. 5000 companies based in New York and 658 companies in IT Services. IT Services had the most companies on this year’s list and was among the top five industries by total revenue, generating $13.2 billion. Like many IT services companies, which in aggregate created 89,632 jobs, Voxel has expanded its team in 2008 with the addition of sales and engineering support in Asia and the United States. The company now has a staff of 40 employees in New York and Singapore. We’re excited about the recognition by Inc. as one of the fastest growing private technology companies nationally, regionally and within the rapidly expanding IT industry. Revenue growth only tells part of the picture, so we’re looking forward to the additional attention this honor by Inc. Magazine will bring to the ways we are making it easier for businesses – small to large – to run their Internet-based operations.”Voxel powers high-traffic blogs and Web-based operations for clients such as Perez Hilton, DailyKos, HEAVY, eBay, and AmieStreet. It is a global leader in Internet Infrastructure services including managed hosting, content delivery and cloud computing. Additionally, Voxel offers data storage, IP transit and transport circuits, and raw infrastructure services. As the only company operating its cloud platform on three continents – North America, Europe and Asia, and offering a combination of on-demand and traditional hosting, all packaged with its performance-tuned content delivery network (CDN), Voxel continues to gain attention and build revenues. Voxel foresees a higher placement on Inc.’s list for 2010 as it anticipates boosting revenues from a growing list of new clients, particularly ones operating or delivering content to global Internet users. The 2009 Inc. 5000, serves as a unique report card on the U.S. economy. Despite the ongoing recession, aggregate revenue among the companies on the list actually increased to $214 billion, up $29 billion from last year, with a median three-year growth rate of 126 percent. The Inc. 5000 are responsible for creating more than 1 million jobs since their founding, making the list perhaps the best example of the impact that private, fast-growing companies can have on the economy. Complete results of the Inc. 5000, including company profiles and an interactive database that can be sorted by industry, region, and other criteria, can be found The Inc. 5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth from 2005 through 2008. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by the first week of 2005, and therefore able to show four full calendar years of sales. Businesses must be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent — not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies — as of December 31, 2008. Revenue in 2005 must have been at least $200,000, and revenue in 2008 must have been at least $2 million. The top 10 percent of companies on the list comprise the Inc. 500, now in its 28th year.Founded in 1979 and acquired in 2005 by Mansueto Ventures LLC Inc. To appear in this Magic Quadrant, Media Temple was selected from a number of technology companies based on a mix of industry-specific criteria, including: on-demand hosting as a stand-alone service, 24/7 customer support, and a significant market presence (revenues of more than $20 million in sales).According to Gartner, Web hosting is an evolving market that is being rapidly transformed by a shift to on-demand, pay-as-you-go products and services — often referred to as “the cloud.” As for Media Temple, however, this is a market shift they’ve predicted for some time. The company has provided components that are core to the cloud for over 10 years and is now uniquely positioned to service the growing demand of today’s hosting consumers. When questioned about the report, Demian Sellfors, CEO of (mt) Media Temple, commented, “Cloud computing is nothing more than a new interpretation or method of accessing data center services. Given our background and track record with VPS, clustering, storage, and other high-scale technologies — (mt) remains well positioned to transform with the I.T. landscape.” Sellfors further indicated, “It’s an exciting time for our industry. We are pleased to be recognized as a Niche Player in Gartner’s newly re-formatted Magic Quadrant.”
The Magic Quadrant is a graphical representation of a marketplace at and for a specific time period. It depicts Gartner’s analysis of how certain vendors measure against criteria for that marketplace, as defined by Gartner. Gartner does not endorse any vendor, product or service depicted in the Magic Quadrant, and does not advise technology users to select only those vendors placed in the “Leaders” quadrant. The Magic Quadrant is intended solely as a research tool, and is not meant to be a specific guide to action.
Media Temple is an established web hosting service provider headquartered in California. The company maintains expertise in the areas of high-scale virtualization, clustering and storage. The company is well known for its easy-to-use software and strong customer service values
